Richard McMahon

Every month we feature an insight into the lives of one of our staff members or associates in order to learn more about the people that make up the Ian Dickie team. This month we interview Richard McMahon from our Durban branch.

Richard is a well respected technical sales representative at our Durban branch and has worked for Ian Dickie for 13 years. Originally from Port-Elizabeth, Richard was schooled at Grey Junior and then Alexander Road High.

After school Richard moved up to Natal, unsure about exactly what he wanted to do, but with a strong inclination to work with his hands. He subsequently took an opportunity to become a carpentry apprentice and for a while found himself making cottage furniture. He later worked as a sales representative for Vodacom before being employed as a salesman for Ian Dickie where he has clearly found his niche. Richard is now able to employ his love for working with his hands through on-site demonstrations of a wide range of Ian Dickie products as well as being able to persue his talent for sales,...the best of both worlds!

Richard is blessed with a beautiful young family and enjoys nothing more than spending time with his wife Shan and their two kids Cade and Kayla. Weekends are often spent braaing with family and friends or enjoying the outdoors with the kids, bass fishing down at the dam being a particular favourite.

When asked about milestones, people or events that have been a highlight for him during his time at Ian Dickie, Richard references the Ian Dickie 50th Birthday bash at Spier in Cape Town as being a particular highlight, not only was it a great opportunity to celebrate the milestone event at an awesome venue, but also a chance to connect with Ian Dickie staff from all our branches.

Richard’s thoughts regarding the future for Ian Dickie are probably best summed up in his own words. “ I have had many opportunities to demonstrate our wide range of quality products to customers over the years and always receive positive responses, so I have no doubt that Ian Dickie will continue to produce top quality equipment and satisfy our customers expectations for many years to come.

Ian Dickie would sincerely like to thank Richard for his loyal service and wish him and his family all the best for the future.
