Brian Masenya

Every month we feature an insight into the lives of one of our staff members or associates in order to learn more about the people that make up the Ian Dickie team. This month we interview Brian Masenya, a Sales Representative at our Johannesburg office.

Brian started working at Ian Dickie in August 2011 at the tender age of 22 and has been with the company for 7 years. Brian initially started working in the factory as a member of the production team that manufactures our Drain Rods and Accessories, however it wasn’t too long before his work ethic and positive attitude were acknowledged and he was promoted to salesman in our Drain Cleaning Division. Brian says that he is very greatful to our Johannesburg MD, Mike Greig for recognizing his potential and encouraging him to take advantage of this opportunity.

Despite being young when he started at Ian Dickie and it being his first professional work opportunity, Brian soon came to value the “family culture” that pervades our company and gain an understanding of why we have so many long standing employees within our organization.

In terms of sports and hobbies, Brian is a keen soccer player and although he says he was able to play more often when he was goalie in the lower divisions, his passion is still strong and he practices and plays as often as his commitments allow. Brian also enjoys going to gym and works out regularly. Something that perhaps not too many people know is that Brian is also an accomplished dancer, what is quite plain to see however, is that Brian is a stylish, fashion savvy and confident young gentleman.

When asked to acknowledge people that have had a great influence on him in the work environment, Brian speaks highly of both GysVan Der Laak and Cecilia Tar, who have always encouraged and supported him when he has needed guidance or advice. Gys, particularly has played a big role in assisting with Brian’s growth by introducing him to his customers and always encouraging him to constantly increase his product knowledge and be the best he can be. Despite being a salesman with Ian Dickie for many years, Gys’ philosophy that we are all constantly on a learning path has struck a cord with this young man and encouraged him to want to build his future within the company.

There is no doubt that Mike Greig’s confidence in Brian was well founded and it is most encouraging to see the in-roads Brian is making in sales of our Truck Mounted Jetting & Vacuum Systems particularly and Drain and Pipe cleaning equipment in general. Brian’s enthusiasm, willingness to learn and dedication to the Ian Dickie brand is greatly appreciated and we wish him every success in what we believe will be a bright future.
In Brian’s words “my passion in life is to enjoy whatever I am doing and to do it to the best of my ability, I believe this will lead me to the right path”.
